Portugal Almost In The Knockouts Of The U-20 World Cup
Portugal has almost qualified for a berth in the knockout phase of the U-20 World Cup by beating Cameroon. Portugal and Benfica star Nelson Oliveira scored the deciding goal in the match.
Portugal had to make three changes to their starting lineup which included Julio Alves, Caetano and Alex in place of Sana, Sergio Oliveira and Rafael Lopes because of suspensions. The trio worked up a better performance and the Portugal team looked more cohesive but it may also be attributed to the inferior play by Cameroon when compared to Uruguay.
The goal for Portugal came after 19 minutes after a build up by Nuno Reis who put Nelson through for goal and he calmly chipped it over the goalkeeper's head from inside the penalty box.
Cameroon did try to get back into the game with Mika forced to make an excellent save in the 65th minute. They also finished the game with more possession and shots on target but couldn't score. Now Portugal just needs one point from Friday's clash against New Zealand to go through but they will be aiming for all three points to give themselves a chance of being Group B winners.
